This occasional paper forms part of CILPA’s broader publication set, “Bringing the African Perspective to the ICC Reform Discussion.” It provides background on the relationship between the International Criminal Court and African States, situating that relationship within wider debates on accountability, international criminal justice, institutional reform and Africa’s engagement with the ICC. The paper contributes to CILPA’s effort to support informed African participation in international criminal justice debates.
